Paper or Molded-Fiber Plates: A Foodservice Sample-Test Plan

ARBONYXPACK · Plate sample evaluation

Plate selection needs more than a shape and outside dimension. Usable serving area, rim depth and stiffness under the meal’s weight affect how the plate works at the counter and in the customer’s hands.

Set up the portion

Place the normal meal on each proposed plate. Include wet or oily foods where they are part of the menu. Check that the rim and serving area leave enough room for eating without crowding the portion. Record the food and total filled weight used in the comparison.

Check handling under load

Use the normal carrying method and serving time. Observe bending, surface condition and how stacked plates separate before filling. If staff lift from one edge, include that handling in the trial instead of assessing an empty plate on a table.

Compare like-for-like samples

Apply the same meal, contact time and handling to the paperboard or molded-fiber alternatives. Record the complete construction and any surface treatment for each. A difference in portion or exposure makes the sample comparison less useful.

Define the approval

Keep the accepted dimensions, material, sample reference and packing quantities in the order. If a particular load or contact condition is important, agree how it will be checked and what result is acceptable. Separate that requirement from general appearance approval.
