Right-Sizing Cartons: Compare Material Use with Protection and Packing Time

ARBONYXPACK · Carton right-sizing

A smaller carton may reduce empty space, but it also changes cushioning clearance and the packing process. Compare proposed sizes as complete packs rather than choosing the smallest outside dimensions.

Separate clearance from wasted space

Map the product, accessories and protection inside the box. Identify the space needed for supports, wrapping and assembly. Remove avoidable voids while retaining the clearances that the protective design requires.

Trial the packing sequence

Pack the same order in each proposed carton. Record assembly steps, insertion, closure and product removal. A tight box that slows every order or damages the contents during packing can create problems despite using less space.

Compare the shipment data

Record outside dimensions, gross weight, carton count and pallet arrangement for the complete packed order. Evaluate any freight effect using the carrier’s applicable method. Keep the calculation separate from claims about material savings or protection.

Approve the revised assembly

Check the product, inner protection and carton together under the agreed handling or transport conditions. Keep the revised references and dimensions with the results. If cushioning or board construction changes as well as size, record those changes explicitly.
