Foodservice Packaging Materials: Paper, Bagasse, Wood or PLA?

ARBONYXPACK · Foodservice materials

The best starting point for a foodservice packaging order is the food or drink, not a material label. The container, cup, lid and accessories need to suit the serving temperature, contact time and normal handling. Compare finished samples under the same conditions.

Write the service brief first

Describe the portion, filled weight, food type and temperature at packing. Include sauces, grease, the longest holding time and delivery conditions. For drinks, give the actual fill level and whether the customer carries the cup, uses a carrier or receives it in a delivery order. These details turn a broad material inquiry into a usable product specification.

Compare the complete construction

Paperboard may be used in cups, trays and cartons with different linings or barriers. Bagasse fiber is used in formed tableware and containers. PLA appears in selected clear cold-service formats, while wood is used for utensils and stirrers. Geometry, coatings and companion parts matter alongside the main material. Record the construction proposed for each item.

Make the sample check answer a question

A filled container can show whether the portion fits and the lid closes using the normal staff technique. A loaded plate can show how it handles when carried. A utensil sample can be tried with the intended meal. Keep the conditions and observations with the approved sample; appearance alone does not establish a performance result.

Build the order record

Keep product references, dimensions, matched lids, material layers and carton packing together. Add the required food-contact or environmental documents for the selected item and market. The same record should identify the artwork and sample revision used to approve the order.
