ARBONYXPACK · Foodservice material selection
Bagasse fibre and PLA can appear in different parts of the same foodservice range. A buyer choosing a meal container or clear drink cup should compare the proposed product constructions rather than asking which material is universally better.
Choose a format around the contents
Moulded bagasse fibre is used in shaped plates, bowls and meal containers. PLA is a polymer used in selected packaging formats, including clear cold-service items. The colour, visibility, usable volume, rim and closing method can matter as much as the material label. Compare the complete bowl-and-lid or cup-and-lid set.
Specify the use conditions
Write down filling temperature, food type, grease or sauce, holding time, refrigeration and transport. If reheating is required, request evidence for the exact finished product and the intended method. A compostability mark does not establish microwave suitability. Do not assign one heat limit to every fibre product or every PLA grade.
Treat disposal as a separate decision
“Bio-based” describes the source of raw materials; it does not by itself establish compostability or recyclability. The European Commission distinguishes these terms and the conditions needed for biodegradation. Check the product assessment and the local collection route, including the treatment of lids, coatings and wrappers.
Compare quotations on the same brief
Send both options the same usable capacity or drawing, filling conditions, quantity, case-packing requirements and destination. Review sample fit, closure and filled handling. Then compare the quoted construction, tooling or artwork costs, required documents and proposed production schedule. This gives a purchasing comparison grounded in the meal and operating process.
